Re: CA Letter of April 22, 2024 and the County violations of the federal and state Information Access Acts.
County Attorney: Nebbelin:
1 have been harassed, falsely accused, booted, and had a criminally induced Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) promoted. by your office-at the moment-the Department of Indian Affairs.
After six years, you find no merit. Your hypocrisy is stunning; it is now clear to me why you have failed to act. You have come to a decision. Since my mailings now get jettisoned to 25 county officials, you have only produced your letter to cover your ass.
Next month, I will add to members of the California Judicial Council, until I get what is needed.
Let's start with your legal understanding of religion, origin, and ethnicity." What? Instead of doing your job, your offlce would like to ban our First Amendment rights.
You do not seem to have a handle on your office Paki-lndian sumamed DCA. She pushed the SMCLL Director Bracco to create a Shakespearian theatrical a story, and then to cry and weep on the stand.
She wanted Emil Lawrence banned from the SMCLL using the DCA's scurrilous Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) case was thrown out of court last year.
And, the fact that the DCA was influenced by the fabrications of Caroline Bracco, the County Law Library Librarian, which never happened. The DCA had zero legal facts for any of Bracco's assertions.
At that moment, I had been harassed and expelled by the County Librarian off and on for six years. To complain, I have to pound on the County firewall. It is the reason why my laundry list has gotten longer.
As a US veteran that served the defense of this nation, I am not allowed to make comment that CA 's Office is surrounded by Pakistan-Indian" turbans?
And, your omce has failed to investigate the sociopath SMCLL Director, and her lying DCA. Your continual denial of "due process," implies the CA's Offce is not practicing American Law.
As of this moment, your office and the SMCLL has failed to comply with the federal FOIA. You have failed to investigate how a SMCLL Director without library skills or certificates can make $140,000 a year, when the only job she has is "servicing' the attorney Steven Schaiman, the SMCLL Board Chair for thirty years.
When our Constitution propounds the separation of church and state, turban wearing cowboys party in your office.
After four letters that I mailed the CA, your omce now finds my statements about his command, biased, abhorrent, inappropriate, scurrilous, and rhetorical.
Yes, Paki-lndians control the San Mateo County Attorney's Office. The CA's claim that the San Mateo County Law Library (SMCLL) is a local business and is immune from the federal FOIA, is still bouncing off my walls.
Sincerely,
Zaøeeeee

San Mateo County Supervisor Ray Mueller
He lives high on hog off of the peoples dime in his cushy multi million dollar office on the coast while many taxpayers scrounge garbage cans for any kind of sustenance.
Leadership in limbo: San Mateo supervisors squabble over setting formal rotation policy
But of course they easily set aside their differences when voting themselves a nice raise. Is it a conflict of interest to even be allowed to vote oneself a raise in salary, nah?
Board of Supes votes to raise supervisor salaries
The raise will go into effect for districts 2 and 3 in January 2027, and for districts 1, 4 and 5 in January 2029.

... If the new policy was adopted, Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller, both elected in 2022, would draw straws in January to determine who goes to fourth in line, which could prevent that person from serving as board president if they aren’t reelected.
Policy over politics
Of course as a new member himself, Mueller would naturally suggest adopting a style similar to what he said he experienced as a city councilmember in Menlo Park, which had newly elected members quickly escalated to the vice president role.
Power hungry, perish the thought?
Supervisors David Canepa and Warren Slocum said they supported the policy being proposed Tuesday as one that took politics out of the process, but Slocum’s comments drew a rebuke from Mueller.
“I think Mr. Canepa’s right when he talks about taking the politics out of it, we’ve already seen it here this morning with Mr. Mueller,” Slocum said, before he was cut off.
“… I’m not going to take disparagement like that anymore. I’m not going to take side comments.”
Supervisor Ray Mueller
“I take offense to that, Mr. Slocum,” Mueller said, arguing that he was making a policy suggestion, not a political one.
“Thank you for your opinion, appreciate it,” said Slocum sarcastically.
Shortly after the exchange, Mueller said he was done with the side comments that he felt were directed at him.
“I have to say, in my time on this board I’ve taken quite a bit of disparagement,” said Mueller, who objected to accusations of caring more about ambition, or the politics of the decision, rather than the policy.
“And I’m going to start telling my colleagues, I’m not going to take disparagement like that anymore. I’m not going to take side comments.” he said.
"I know I’m not the smartest person who lives in Menlo Park."
Parmer-Lohan said that she could be interested in satellite offices if the community showed interest, but it comes at a cost. Since transportation is an issue in the district, she says she wants to go where people live and work.
Mueller said if elected, he would open an office on the coast, going there several days a week, so residents can meet with him.
"l would like to point out that MOST property values on the coast are reaching $2 million dollars these days."
So what was the first thing on the agenda of the newly elected Sam Mateo Supervisor? It was sinking his teeth into the billions of dollars that is entrusted to his and the other San Mateo County Commissioners' oversight.
Mueller quicky set about opening himself up a nice cushy multi million dollar office on the taxpayers' dime."
Coastside News does not have independent confirmation of the issue causing Mueller to withdraw his support for Jimenez but continues to investigate.
Numerous other local leaders and businesses are still listed on the Jimenez campaign website as endorsing his candidacy.
Half Moon Bay City Councilmember Joaquin Jimenez
I attended the same meeting that Noreen did, and the Farmworker or “Pro Affordable Housing” element in the audience was vocal in favor of what they wanted, and were being backed by out- of-the-Area YIMBY groups from over-the Hill, so to each side their own “special interest supporters”.
But, if some local real estate agents who earn their living in town and happen to also be members of the Catholic Church are to be labeled “Big Real Estate Interests”
l would like to point out that MOST property values on the coast are reaching $2 million dollars these days.
And sadly, some of the homes that are now $1.7 million dollars were at one point $300K in the 1980’s. The folks who purchased them, raised their kids in them, improved them via “sweat equity” , keeping up the property, paying the taxes, and volunteering around town at various functions, to make this a good place to live, now are watching as their own kids can’t afford to rent or purchase here.
While Harvey and Joaquin beat the drum for subsidized Farmworker Housing, built by Mercy Housing, which will not pay any taxes to HMB, Other Voices are calling for Mixed Income Housing that will support middle class and low income workers in our town.
ADUs will allow families to have their children grow up, and still remain on the Coast, or, a senior can age in place while their family remains in the larger home and Grandma can stay in the smaller, single level unit with no stairs.
There are also, so many individually-owned small lots at Wavecrest, if the City allowed the owners to build there, that could take care of much of the pent-up demand for modest, mid-range housing.
...accusations of Mr. Mueller caring more about ambition, or the politics of the decision, rather than the policy.
And the below political poster kind of emphasizes that. Note that only Mueller's image adorns the poster and not the actual candidate's picture. Self obsessed self promoter?
In the old days on the Coast, if you put up multiple highly-produced signs and ran the kind of campaign the challengers are running; everyone would know that big money is behind their campaigns. And those challengers would lose immediately.
"It is a mean-spirited political scheme. This charter amendment with sunset language that only applies to me is an effort to go around the voters to try to unseat me. I will fight it tooth and nail. I am not going anywhere." -San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus
Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller on Tuesday held a press conference to highlight the public release of Cordell’s report.

An Allegedly Independent Investigation Calls On San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus To Resign
San Francisco
By Dave Pehling
Updated on: November 12, 2024 / 7:21 PM PST / CBS San Francisco
Two members of The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Tuesday called on Sheriff Christina Corpus to resign. That was not very helpful in uniting the community of San Mateo.
Their case rests upon a whole laundry list of recommendations of the allegedly independent investigation of a retired Judge into allegations of abuse of power in her department.
Just how much authority can a retired judge actually have? If she was on the payroll of the county then she must abide by their rules, no? That doesn't seem like independence.
She conjured up an impressive list of wrongdoing by our intrepid Sheriff that offer little more than hearsay and uncorroborated allegations. Are allegations facts, are allegations proof?
Is the brave Sheriff of San Mateo County, California not entitled to the Constitutional protection of the premise that all are innocent until proven guilty? Definitely not according to the conspiracy by two corrupt politicians and lots of backing from organized crime.
What better position is there for criminal conduct than to be a judge, a county board of supervisors member or yes, a sheriff for that matter?
Organized crime is systematically replacing honest sheriffs and also fire chiefs across NorCal with a bevy of corruption that passes for law enforcement.
What possible motive could a politician have to trump up a rigged investigation of a sheriff, who can tell, would they still be alive after the fact if they did?
“We recognize that it is very, very expensive to live here..."
Supervisor Noelia Corzo

Several people in public comment spoke in the Sheriff's favor, including Redwood City native Brian Howell who said he believes details in the report still need to be verified.
"Who knows what's real, what's not real. I just know Sheriff Christina as a person and she is a good person," Howell said.
Several in public comment said that the report intentionally did not take in interviews from people who would have supported Corpus.
Does that sound like an Independent Investigation?
The California Sheriff's Association shared a letter it sent to the Board of Supervisors. It said in part that it dilutes the voice of voters and may alter how future sheriffs undertake obligations.
"Corzo has also made waves on the Board of Supervisors. ROUGH WAVES." -Sue Lempert Mayor San Mateo
She is not like her predecessor Carole Groom who worked diligently to forge consensus. Members of the Board of Supervisors are traditionally a collegial lot. They may not all agree on all issues but they remain friendly to and respectful of each other. Corzo has broken that tradition by verbal attacks on her colleagues.
"They hounded fellow trustee Lisa Warren and accused her of being a racist. Warren is white. She resigned from the board." -Sue Lempert Mayor San Mateo
Supervisor Noelia Corzo- "She wasn’t the first Latino. Reuben Barrales was. Before her election to the Board of Supervisors, she was a member of the San Mateo-Foster City School Board. There she had the reputation of making waves. Rough waves. She and fellow trustee Shara Watkins became friends. They hounded fellow trustee Lisa Warren and accused her of being a racist. Warren is white. She resigned from the board."
According to a release issued by the board, the investigative report by retired California Superior Court Judge LaDoris Cordell revealed additional charges of intimidation, retaliation, the use of racial and homophobic slurs and conflicts of interest.
Yes and speaking of conflicts of interest, the FORMER Judge Cordell is being paid by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors who are making the accusations. So it's almost like she is obligated as their hire to please them by digging up dirt and slinging that mud.
Corpus and her Chief of Staff Victor Aenlle are also accused of having a personal relationship.
The peanut gallery responded by asking what is wrong with personal relationships? More people should try them. Especially in this cold impersonal digital age.
The report concluded with a recommendation that “Sheriff Corpus step down and that Victor Aenlle’s employment by the sheriff’s office be terminated immediately. Nothing short of new leadership can save this organization.”
Speaking of new leadership, how about recalling the County Board of Supervisors while we are at it and filling it with less combative members?
Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller on Tuesday held a press conference to highlight the public release of Cordell’s report.
“Judge Cordell’s independent investigation contains findings that are unprecedented in the history of San Mateo County Government,” said Mueller. “The sheriff and her chief of staff’s reprehensible conduct demands full transparency and immediate action.”
But she ain't a Judge no more. False advertising.
Opinion: Don’t use county resources for campaign purposes
OPINION
BY DAVE PRICE
Daily Post Editor
A reader brought to my attention an email newsletter from San Mateo County Supervisor Noelia Corzo, sent out on a county government account, in which she appears to be campaigning against Prop. 36, the measure that would reclassify many misdemeanors as felonies. Prop. 36 is a reaction to the onslaught of retail robberies that have plagued California.
Her newsletter said in part, “If passed, Prop. 36 would revert us back to the days of mass incarceration while eliminating funding for crucial programs proven to reduce crime and recidivism. As a former social worker who has seen the ugly reality of addiction, I do believe in supporting crime prevention and drug treatment programs. However, Prop. 36 will not address the problems it is trying to solve.”
She should remain neutral if she’s using county government resources.
I asked Corzo about it and she said “the intent was to provide information on what happened at the 8/27 (Board of Supervisors) meeting and the comments I made publicly at that meeting.”
It seems a lot like a campaign ad to me. It gives no sense of neutrality or even-handedness.
Elsewhere in the newsletter, she gives this plug to labor unions: “Supporting our partners in organized labor is more important than ever. Unions built the American middle class and they continue to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our nation.”
I think there are some who might argue with that — such as workers who are trying to dump their unions. Or workers who don’t like being forced to pay union dues.
She should be careful. Three years ago Jose Nunez, a vice chancellor in the San Mateo County Community College District, was indicted for using college district resources to campaign for a member of the district’s board and to support a statewide proposition. He copped a plea to the charges but won’t be sentenced until he testifies against former college chancellor Ron Galatolo, who is facing charges including bribery.
If she wants to put out political messages, she should use her campaign account like other politicians. But sending these campaign ads on a county government email server crosses the line.

"As for Corzo, one can hope she shifts tactics. Not working well with others is never productive and leads to the kind of total government dysfunction we see in Congress. Our county faces big challenges and we deserve better."- Sue Lempert is the former mayor of San Mateo.
On Tuesday evening, November twelfth, the sheriff spoke to reporters about the independent investigation into her office and denied the charges.
“Like many of you, I am shocked by the outright slander by two members of the board this afternoon. No one will call me a racist or a homophobe. These are people who have a vendetta against me,” Corpus said. “I am disgusted at how low these people will go.”
Corzo said, “I think I should have invested a little more in getting to know each one of the supervisors better in the first month or two more than I did. Other than the time we’re at (a meeting together), we’re all in our own world.”
Independent Investigation Calls On San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus To resign. But The Sheriff Is Innocent Until Proven Guilty
"a menace to the well-being of the court,” writes Cordell of her reputation as a judge"
...the poster child for out-of-control judicial activism.”
LaDoris H. Cordell: I’ll always remember the man I wrongfully sentenced to prison."
That must be very comforting for the person serving in the big house because of her injustice.
The retired Judge, is she really impartial? How could she be when after all she was hired, meaning they gave her a boatload of money, to crap on the right honorable San Mateo County Sheriff?
On July 10, 2024, John Nibbelin, the County Counsel of San Mateo County, retained Judge LaDoris H. Cordell (Ret.) to conduct an independent fact-finding investigation into complaints and concerns that current and former members of the Sheriff’s Office have about Victor Aenlle, who serves on the Executive Team of Sheriff Christina Corpus. Over the course of the investigation, additional matters regarding the Sheriff’s Office were identified and added to the scope of the investigation.
San Jose police Lt. George Beattie, the president of the police union, immediately criticized the choice.
“I have serious concerns about Ms. Cordell’s ability to be independent and objective,” he said in an e-mail. “While she has a right to be associated with community groups that have historically been critical and antagonistic to our officers, this should raise questions about her ability to be objective, just as Chris Constantin was considered biased because of his relationships. I consider this a double standard.”
Of course none of this would have anything to do with the

SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- Calls for permanent independent oversight are growing louder after San Mateo County's sheriff held a Sunday night press conference alleging inappropriate conduct by County Manager Mike Callagy. Sheriff Christina Corpus did not mince words.
"Up until now, I've stayed silent about the retaliation and abuse of power, discrimination, and bullying tactics I've been facing as part of a broarder pattern I can no longer ignore."
Among the issues addressed were allegations of toxic behavior that happened shortly after she took office in 2023.
"He made an inappropriate and offensive request I needed to inform him who I dated within the county and when. A request I found demeaning and discriminatory. As a woman of color who has endured sexual harassment in this county, I was shocked and appalled by his actions and conduct."

What really sucks is that California is a lawless state & very little punishment if any will be brought to those who commit crimes & released only to repeat, And also the Mental health is Not addressed, Why did California close so many mental heath facilities? The state of California is a mess. Used to be The state everybody wanted to visit & you lived here, Made you feel good !
once again another happy person..... Once again the post wasn't a complaint. It was simply a question of since they don't do anything and people don't get arrested anymore for anything. Why do they need nine cops.... The comments not even worth the response , but once again... This is a platform to To voice what you wanted to talk about instead. You get the negativity of everybody... I forgot free speech has been being taken away from people....lol well im a person that believes in the 1st ammendment.....I voice my opinion.. But it definitely wasn't a complaint.

I can't stand this platform with its overbearing post nannying; so many trigger words like "stupid" (eg I used referencing my computer frustrations once) will get you a warning. We had a heartbreaking experience at our house this morning that involved law enforcement. A young fawn was hit by a car and my husband found her in distress near our fence. Animal control was 6-8 hours out from what we were told. Law enforcement showed up and stood around for a while. Rather than ending the poor things life where is was laying and suffering, they chose to drag it across the street while it yelled out in pain and then didn’t want to tell us anything from there. Later he was told they slit the throat. Why couldn’t they do that where it was originally injured? To drag it across the street while it was suffering with a broken back was heartless. Shocked at how the situation was handled. :(
They don't keep anybody safe. Some lady just got beat up a couple elderly.Ladies in boyes, Hot Springs one of them was my client that I worked for.... they didn't do anything to keep her safe. They didn't even arrest the person attacked her.... I don't know why everybody.
's missing the point of my post
I have some concerns about their behavior. They come across as rude and condescending, and seem arrogant. It's frustrating when they dismiss you by saying they don't have time for you. Such BS.
Yeah they're threatening to take this post down since we have censoring going on... Come November.I hope everybody opens their eyes
I find it interesting that everytime I post a very simple question....some people are triggered to try and call it ignorance? I grew up in the east bay....where crime is 20×higher than this small town.....in this town besides the things people are bringing up from the past👍lately I've seen a elder women by Boyes get beat up...the attacker wasn't arrested.....I see people in rite aid and cvs filling carts with their kids....and walking out of the store....cops do nothing....I've seen them screaming at mental I'll homeless ....that shouldn't be on the streets in the first place being abused....all the things I see is not these escalated "events" people are throwing in my comments....I know the neighborhood I live in....these weren't as far as I know violence....I just found it odd there were 6 cars everywhere nine cops🤷♀️ when their are real crimes going on...they seem to do nothing about🤷♀️
it's all over town lately...and right next door.....they have 9 officers...🤷♀️that was my question is what's up with that? It's unnecessary with what I've seen

...May I suggest that the area in around Sonoma is not particularly "crime ridden"...When there is an issue requiring police attendance for some reason there is often a response that seems extreme , it may be because the police are bored (?) with relatively few calls for their response they may well show up in force just to have some "action". It can be a long time between calls and a case of "anything is better than nothing" .
another reason for them to "reinforce" each other...just sayin'
Citizens on the street are the mentally ill.People that are sleeping on the sidewalk or not.Dangerous, that was my point none of the situations I've seen lately was anything to do with danger or violence.I just was asking why they have to have nine officers at scenes... That aren't pertaining to what you said
Hi... I'm just wondering, what's with the police around here? on Joaquin Dr. And it's happened a couple of times this week by Robinson Road or St..... Why do they have six cars and nine police show up to people's houses with no outcome and no arrests happen....? Why do they need that many police officers on scene? Or they have nine police harassing the homeless people.... I was just finding it a little unsettling.... I grew up in an area where the police were different I suppose...🤷♀️
Sadly their M.O. is usually intimidation, and their conduct is often hard to make sense of. I honestly think that overall we would be better off without them.
I've seen lots of weirdness with their conduct here.....that's all I was saying....who needs 9 cops if there wasn't violence ....all I was stating
SVSC Town Hall Tomorrow at 5pm at Altamira. Last night the first of these town hall meetings was held at SVHS. The district attempted to separate the parents into group and when they wouldn’t agree called the sheriff. The proposals including closing schools for which we just spend millions on renovations while moving kids to school that haven’t been retrofitted. It also includes staff cuts that affects the kids directly while the superintendent gets an automated 4% pay raise. Aside from the abysmal financial mismanagement of our school by the leadership, they are also lying to parents, refusing to answer questions and behaving as dictators. They are public employees beholden to not only properly and safely educating children but also to answer for their budgets, their decision making - in particular to the parents and taxpayers who pay their salaries. Let’s show up in mass tomorrow and demand answers- our town deserves better and our kids do too.

The district leadership wanted to split the parents into groups which they refused to do- they came to a town hall which by definition is for everyone to hear the same information and ask questions. When the parents refused to move the sherif was called. The parents did nothing wrong and were not belligerent- they simply wanted what they came for: a town hall meeting. But the district doesn’t like answering questions (in fact they simply go silent when they don’t like the question) and want to control the narrative. We have had enough.

Isn't it also interesting that closure of Old Adobe preschool was due to $40,000 embezzlement and everyone stepped up and now district is using same excuse to close again. Someone needs to address the city government and the school district who are ripping everyone off and so mismanaging funds. Just saying!
•
you are correct it’s endemic. I have sat through meetings after meetings where the leadership goes silent when they dont like the question. Fact is, these are public servants. If I didn’t have answers for my boss or refused to answer i’d be fired. They work for us and they serve the school population. They are beholden to answer to us on what they are doing. I guess if I had just spent $13 million 3 years ago on renovating a school I now want to close I would prefer to hide too.
While I do not have children in the Sonoma Valley School system. I find it interesting that the attendees of this meeting were asked to separate into groups as opposed to asking their questions directly and in mass. I would also like to know the outcome after deputies were called when they refused to break into groups. I have witnessed this "break into groups" method and mentality by those holding meetings several times over the last few years. At meetings to discuss the development of SDC it was used by the PR and planning company chosen by the county to make sure we only discussed pre planned ideas and plans. We were also given scripts as to what we could discuss in each group. When Ken Mattson tried to sell his partnership plan to develop a Springs Plaza the same technique was used and we were told what we could or could not discuss in the groups. So it seems like a technique used by those in governing positions to make sure the public is not heard. Yet, they can say we had a meeting and we listen to the public.

thank you for this. I guess it’s a new tactic to break people up and the parents thankfully didn’t stand for it. I plan on going tonight and it will be interesting to see if they try again. Showing up is important- the leadership needs to understand they cannot continue to mishandle our funds with impunity.
I would normally NOT post something like this… It seems to me lately (mostly on Verano and Railroad in Sonoma) that the stop signs seem to be just a suggestion!!! I have seen it on 5th west as well..! I would not have posted this if I hadn’t almost had to hit then stop sign on Verano after a car did (as I call it) a suggested stop… Where is that Highway patrol when you need them?!!!!😡😡
just driving around town yesterday I counted at LEAST 15 cars at various intersections that did a “suggested stop”😡
Broadway has become a speedway with a couple of pedestrians hit at crosswalks. Never a patrol car in sight.

California firefighter arrested for allegedly starting 5 wildfires

A Cal Fire firefighter was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of starting five separate wildfires in the state within the last six weeks.
The fire apparatus engineer, Robert Hernandez, 38, was arrested by Cal Fire Law Enforcement officers at a fire station in Mendocino County, California, on suspicion of “arson to forest land,” according to a news release from the agency.
“I am appalled to learn one of our employees would violate the public’s trust and attempt to tarnish the tireless work of the 12,000 women and men of CAL FIRE,” Director and Fire Chief Joe Tyler said in the release, noting residents’ “vigilance” had helped the agency catch Hernandez.
Hernandez is suspected of starting five separate fires on purpose, while off duty, between August 15 and September 14, the release said. All the fires were in Sonoma County.
Quick actions by residents and fire suppression teams kept the damages from those fires minimal, Cal Fire said, as the combined fires only burned one acre of land.
Hernandez is facing five counts of arson to forest land and is being held on a $2 million bail, Sonoma County Jail records show. It is unclear if Hernandez has obtained an attorney.
The National Volunteer Fire Council noted there is no national data collection system for firefighter arson cases, according to a 2016 report .
“Without an official source for data on firefighter arsonists, researchers, fire service leaders, and investigators are forced to extrapolate based upon samples of known cases,” the report said. “A survey of news articles suggests that over 100 firefighters a year are arrested for arson.”

In a statement released by the Board of Supervisors Friday, Supervisor Ray Muller called the move "possible retaliation" as Sheriff Monaghan participated in a judge's independent investigation of the Sheriff's Office. Corpus released a statement in response calling Mueller's words "pure speculation".
ABC7 News reached out to Callagy and his office along with members of the Board of Supervisors.
Our calls were not returned or those we reached out to couldn't comment.
Nancy Goodban of Fixin' San Mateo County, a grassroots nonpartisan organization, started in 2021 to demand transparency and accountability within the sheriff's office, says this latest turn of events is why permanent oversight, not just a judge's investigation is needed.
"You can nip problems in the bud and stop back and forth," said Goodban.
Founder, Jim Lawrence echoed the sentiment.
"We know there has been turnover at the highest level at the sheriff's office. This does not give us any comfort."
As of Monday, there had been no additional messaging from the sheriff's office or Board of Supervisors. Both parties say they'll seek legal action to move forward.

What is happening across from Dollar Tree parking lot? Police, ambulance,Fire Dept.
That area unfortunately attracts a lot of homeless and drug dealers just across from Siesta apartments. The entire mall ought to be repurposed with better tenants and more security in my opinion. That dollar tree needs new management and an onsite security guard.
Does anyone know what happened last night on highway 37 near black point helicopter and emergency equipment around 10 PM?
I also had a post about this got a few replies.
I came home just as the helicopter was circling the neighborhood with search lights. While on highway 37 a vehicle (highway patrol) flew by with lights. Then it seemed to land/hover over 37 bridge.
I didn't respond to this thread. Something is weird here
L agree
Yep. The fire department is becoming one big conglomerate in NorCal. It's a shame because it performs like a conglomerate; fat, bloated, inefficient, ineffective.
What with wildfires running rampant across the whole state, how can anyone impartially assess that the overall results of the fire agencies of California are doing a good job?
But with the movement to incorporate and merge all of the fire departments of California into one, isn't it time for some kind of change that actually has a chance to really work?
Because by merging all of the fire departments competition has been eliminated. The resulting huge fire departments are now insular, inbred. Constantly patting themselves on the back saying, "Boy you look great in your shiny uniforms with the adorning military stripes. It doesn't matter that out state is on fire for we at least are safe and fat and fed. Our very own taxes mean we don't need to exert ourselves anymore. Not when there's a chance that we might stain our unis or break a fingernail."
The fire department mergers need to be reversed and in their place separately run fire organizations instead. They need to take a page from the all American past time, baseball.
Each fire department would then be a separate team, the club that extinguishes the fire first wins. I mean take a look at baseball and all of the advanced metrics going on there.
Where are any similar metrics for the performances of how well a fire department puts out a fire compared to another department. You can't effectively compare the same department against itself. That's one of many reasons to separate the fire department.
Because it's that competition that spurs innovation. Today's fire department is too comfortable, too spoiled, too ineffective and inefficient.
'nuff said, maybe.
The Problem With Firefighters
The problem with firefighters is that they are so universally loved and admired that there's little if any accountability. The taxpayers shower them with money, living quarters and yes even acclaim.
Thus proving the old adage that love is blind. What the firefighters really need is a good kick in the ass. Because any impartial assessment of their work must conclude that the results for all of the treasures and resources piled at their feet are at the very least wholly inadequate.
The trend is toward more and more consolidation of fire departments to create bigger and bigger bureaucracies allegedly for greater efficiency. But this has not proved to produce the promised results.
What the situation really requires is the exact opposite. Because the lack of competition has obviously made fire departments too complacent.

SDC developer resubmits application; Sierra Club responds
Re: Initial Comments on Resubmittal of Eldridge Renewal LLC, SDC Development Application, File Number: PLP24-0005 Owner Name: State Of California
Summary: Resubmitted Proposed Development is Larger, Encroaches on Wildlife Corridor, Creates Climate Warming Urban Sprawl and Ignores De-Certification of Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report by Court Order
Sierra Club is taking this opportunity to provide our initial statement of environmental concerns and to provide comments and questions on the resubmitted Eldridge Renewal LLC application for the development of the former Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC). Please include it in the Administrative Record.
We understand that an application has been resubmitted to Permit Sonoma and that a referral to agencies was recently sent out for review and response with a recommended deadline of July 2, 2024. This letter is in response to that referral.
CEQA – SDC Specific Plan and EIR De-Certified by Court Order
Sierra Club is concerned that the Eldridge Renewal application is moving forward at Permit Sonoma even though the county’s SDC Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) were de-certified by court order due to its failure to meet its legal obligations under the California Environmental Quality Act. Please answer these questions immediately:
How can development at SDC move forward without a certified Specific Plan or EIR?
How does the county (and state) plan to meet its obligations under CEQA regarding the Eldridge Renewal application?
Given the size and scale of the Eldridge Renewal proposed development, Sierra Club believes that any further planning by the County of Sonoma must be delayed at least until the EIR is revised and approved by the courts.
Because the Sonoma County Superior Court judge issued a decisive ruling over the proposed mega-development on the historic Sonoma Developmental Center campus, Sierra Club urges the county and state to undertake a complete reset on the future of the open space lands and historic campus in the heart of rural Sonoma Valley. (See our “Close to Home” in the May 26, 2024 Press Democrat.)
ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
Sierra Club was shocked and surprised to see that the resubmitted Eldridge Renewal application is actually LARGER than the original proposal given the fact that the Specific Plan and the EIR were decertified due to inadequately mitigating the multitude of negative environmental impacts from the proposal for a massive urban development in the middle of a wildlife corridor in a high wildfire area.
The resubmitted Eldridge Renewal plan for the core campus deviates significantly from the final Specific Plan for the SDC core campus and it now includes 962 residential units (200 affordable at some level), roughly 400,000 square feet of mixed-use space including a 150-key four-story boutique hotel in the Sonoma Valley Wildlife Corridor, and 2,750 parking spaces.
Sierra Club has provided detailed comments about the development of the SDC lands and the protection of open space throughout the county and state public planning processes, including review of the county SDC Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report. We have urged scaling back the development and stronger environmental protections throughout the public process. Once again, these concerns have been ignored or dismissed by the development application.
Do you really think that the fire department gives a shit about global warming and the environment?
Think again. Else why on what's left of earth do they insist on placing their cushy new mansion for fire fighters, underwritten by organized crime, right smack in the middle of one of Sonoma County's few remaining bastions of greenery?
All they care about is their own fancy new fire prevention utopia with all the amenities that an Elon musk could desire. With the construction of this exclusive shangri-la for fireman.
Yes our fire fighters will never want for anything ever again. While our long suffering taxpaying residents will continue to join the ranks of the homeless.
EIR NEEDS TO ASSESS 100-ACRE CARVE OUT IN COMMUNITY SEPARATOR FOR DEVELOPMENT
In addition, the revised EIR must consider the last-minute carve out of 100 acres of designated open space by the state.
It was done without any public consultation or environmental review.
It's a large new development of a CalFIRE training facility in a voter approved community separator that prohibits any intensification of development without a vote of the people of Sonoma County.
In particular, we wonder how state monies could be allocated for such a project, as well as a grant for a non-profit to do studies, when the 100 acres of open space were always designated for transfer to state parks; and without any environmental review.
Please see attached for reference the previous letters we have submitted that detail the litany of concerns that remain relevant and have so far never been adequately addressed by the county, the state or the developer.
Please include Sierra Club as an interested party and stakeholder and provide notifications of all activities related to the application to the Redwood Chapter and Sonoma Group.

It is gratifying reading this rebuttal from the Sierra Club. While we still have a system of functional laws obliging paying them due service our communities have spoken repeatedly for an acceptable transition for this marvelous property. Every citizen who loves the Sonoma Valley needs to stand with and support realistic ecological planning and endlessly demand it from officials and development participants.

The report provides an evaluation of the subject agencies, and recommends sphere of influence amendments.
Some group of faceless individuals glibly identified as "Staff" has in their infinite wisdom decided for the rest of Glen Ellen that their humble fire department should now be held responsible for the territories of five other agencies!
The only stated reason for this escalation of responsibilities is to allow a group of organized criminals to seize control of yet another fire agency and in the darkness bind them.
As if that is not bad enough, they will impose special taxes to pad their already fat bank accounts in order to complete the takeover of the near entire corruption of the police, fire and ambulance services of Northern California and in the darkness bind them.
LAFCO is a perfect name for the headquarters of STAFF as organized crime is laughing all the way to their bank as they bleed city, county and state treasuries dry by enacting more taxes to skim and more gigantic projects for taxpayers to pay for what, twiddling their thumbs as the state burns to a crisp?
Yes and "Staff" is likewise the perfect moniker for the crooks running the show of consolidation of the fire departments in order to impose corruption upon all. A staff infection strangling northern California.
The government is trying to break up Google's monopoly but here through the back 🚪 door is a Monopoly on Fire and Ambulance services raging unchecked as it sucks the tax payers of Northern California dry.
Staff is recommending that the Glen Ellen Fire Protection District sphere of influence be extended to cover the territories of the other five agencies, which would allow for reorganization proposals that would consolidate some or all of the agencies in the region.
It should be noted that reorganizations may result in the imposition of special taxes on landowners within affected territories.
If and when reorganizations are proposed, registered voters and landowners within the affected territories will have the right to protest Commission actions.
Notices will be issued regarding Commission consideration of reorganization proposals, and to inform the public of protest proceedings.
Please direct any correspondence or inquiries to the Executive Officer.
And in the darkness bind them.
Anyone know what's going on in/around El Verano with the helicopter flying around?? Police car with sirens passed by me heading south about 15 minutes before that.
CALFIRE Helicoper Program Manager Aviation Management Unit 5500 Price Ave McClellan, CA 95652
Yeah really, can we take it easy on the helicopter use? I can't imagine that it's really necessary 9 times out of 10, and very expensive taxpayers' money used; not to mention annoying and unsettling. Expedited donut delivery is not a valid reason for a helicopter.
Firefighters love to be seen of men in there fancy uniforms and finery. While the funerals ⚱️ of the victims of wildfires multiply, fire chiefs primp and pose near their shiny equipment.
Ah yes, check out those uniforms! Is there any one more pompous than a fire chief, Prancing around like a five star general?
It's almost a slap in the face to our brave military veterans who really did have skin in the game. Going into harm's way for their country.
And what did the fire chief do to earn the right to dress as a combat hero, save fluffy from the tree? Yes a noble act but come on, nothing deserving of a uniform identical to a five star general!
California has burned to a crisp. A job well done boys. You deserve yet another medal for your bravery watching Rome burn.
Anyone know what happened at 5th Street West and Oregon around 10:00 tonight. Lots of cops near the school.

Doesn't appear like anything was seriously taken about the post..... It was a serious question of why there was a helicopter flying around the neighborhood. Not one person has yet to answer the question... Not sure. What was comical about any of it. It's interesting that you hide behind the keyboard but yet you keep popping on my post for absolutely no apparent reason.. If you have no Source of information representing the question that somebody presents.....Why don't you try staying off of their page... 🤔

What’s happening towards the Springs , the cops went down Spain Street full speed with their sirens blasting.
They have a habit of driving way too fast through our town with or without sirens on. I hope it's worth it, but 9 times out of 10 I doubt that it is. Not safe.

Man in viral video delivering racist diatribe after crash identified as Northern California firefighter
A man seen in a viral video berating a driver with racist language following a crash in California's Central Valley has been identified as a firefighter with the Alameda County Fire Department which is now investigating the incident.
The crash happened on Friday morning on Highway 99 between Armstrong Road and Harney Lane in Lodi, the driver who shot the video told KCRA. The video shot from inside Vath Touch's car shows another man approaching Touch's driver-side window to argue about who was at fault.
During the argument, Touch says to the man "The cops are coming," to which the man replies, "Oh the cops are definitely coming, dumb-ass Mexican ... or whatever the f--- you are Filipino."
The man later tells Touch, "I hope you have insurance, I doubt that you do ... you're probably going to work some lawn job."
Touch says: "Don't be racist, bro. Don't be racist."
The man responded by saying, "I'm not a fucking racist. I'm a fucking firefighter," while pointing to a Stockton Fire Department logo on his T-shirt. The man also tells Touch to go back to "your $10 an hour job, bitch."
As the argument continues and the man gets closer to Touch's face, Touch tells him, "Don't spit on me," to which the man replies, "I'll spit on you all fucking day." As Touch holds up his hand in front of him, the man slaps Touch's hand, saying, "Get your hand out of my fucking face."
On Sunday evening after the video went viral, Stockton firefighters' union social media account posted a statement saying "Just to be clear, this is a Stockton California firefighter. We know who this is, but it is absolutely one of our people."
Later Sunday evening, the Alameda County Fire Department acknowledged the video "involved one of our members in a verbal interaction with a community member."
Alameda County Fire Department Media Release August 25, 2024 The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) is responding...

"It has come to our attention that some language was used during this interaction that does align with the values and standards we uphold as an organization," said a post on Facebook.
Alameda County Fire Chief William McDonald released a statement saying, "Our department is committed to gathering all the facts and we are addressing this situation in a manner that reflects our dedication to integrity, professionalism, and community trust. Our goal is to ensure that we continue to serve our community with the highest level of respect, both on and off duty."
At a news conference Monday morning McDonald said the firefighter in question was placed on paid administrative leave while the incident was being investigated.

Fire The Corrupt And Inefficient Fire Chiefs And Those Who Hired Them
Isn't It Obvious By Now That California's Fire Departments Are Extreme Underachievers?
When your team sucks, you know it's time to fire the manager and the incompetent executive that hired him in the first place.
With California burning to the ground isn't it time to dump it's obviously inefficient leadership?
California's communities are second to none in their admiration for the gallant men and women of the fire department. With all of the consolidation of the different cities thereof allegedly making the one large fire prevention bureaucracy much more lean and efficient.
But has this proven to be the case? One reason given for the mass exodus of California homeowners to greener pastures lies in the fear of fires destroying those very homes that were once theirs.
Yes and also the spiraling costs of protecting their properties from burning with the rest of California. Global warming has been a convenient excuse for the overall lack of protection.
Because of the great love for the brave souls of the fire department all are hesitant to cast any blame upon them.
Yet when your home and city has fried to a crisp, who else deserves the yes blame? Even then not a peep from the adoring citizens! Instead of that distasteful confrontation thousands are packing up their wagon trains and heading to Texas and elsewhere.
So that now there are many less to continue to proclaim the attributes of the fire department. After all they do have that pancake breakfast and toy drives.
The ignorance of the fire departments many failures to extinguish the endless blazes is akin to baseball fans continuing to cheer the star players years after they are of any value whatsoever to the team.
The shiny red vehicles make for great spectacle but when fire has ceased to be man's servant and instead turned to it's destroyer who you gonna call, a firefighter?
When in this modern age a firefighter can't put out the fire, the question needs to finally be asked, "Does the king really have any clothes on?
The baseball season is near its end and the last place teams are beginning to see the light and know new leadership is needed and so they fire the manager and his coaches in hopes of sparking improvement to the team.
Isn't it time California admits that their fire departments suck?
Look at the evidence, take action, dump all the fire chiefs and those who hired them.
How long will California continue the mollycoddling of fire officials in fancy garb while it's cities and towns burn?
Since the reboot of copsonnuts2 the police have begun to keep their distance somewhat. Disrupting their fun of harassing intrepid reporters, the blog is chipping away at the systemic corruption of some local police departments.
Unfortunately it is only a few chips of the great wall organized crime has built around the police departments of NorCal. For behold, here they are back at it stalking the investigative journalist seeking to expose the above.
Check out the semi police vehicle they sent with no license plate or other identification yet implying it's a police car. No it's a Police Imitation Guy, or PIG for short.
The police, fearing identification of those executing their cowardly harassment of members of the LGBT community, send an unmarked vehicle for the task.
Mr. Trump, the President backed by organized crime, the Mafia, or what ever name might be appropriate, aptly summed up some of their more modern methods when he bragged that he would build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.
What organized crime is doing is building a great wall around the justice system with money extracted from the taxpayers of the USA.
Thus making the taxpayers pay for the ever thickening wall around justice.
Spiritually speaking, and the world will need the best thereof should the situation ever be remedied. The author proclaims with the right of blog ownership, that just as the British encountered great storms popping up here and there to prevent their conquest of Washington DC,
COVID and it's variants were sent by God to stop Trump from turning America into a fascist Republic.
Should he again win the presidency he hopefully chooses a better path or else....?
Those seeking justice, such as minorities gunned down by police, can expect to be lost in the foggy forests of legal double, triple, quadruple talk.
To them the law enforcement community might appear two-faced.
The utter derangement of certain segments of law enforcement communities, cliques or even gangs as described by the new Yorker, is unfortunately quite pronounced in NorCal yet profitable due to organized crime owning police chiefs, city and county council members and many others willing to look the other way in order to collect the free vehicles, and even cash.
A steady flow of cash from talons sunk into numerous public and even private treasuries such as the disappearing acts conducted at armoured car depositories.
Inside jobs where everyone is compensated richly, cleaning out the armored car cash storage areas with impunity, repeat.
Organized crime is so flushed with cash, that they flout their ownership of police forces by hiring spokespersons whose names describes the treatment to be expected. Such as misty forests or some such.
Those seeking justice, such as minorities gunned down by police, can expect to be lost in the foggy forests of legal double, triple, quadruple talk.
To them, those minorities seeking justice for police kills of their relatives, the law enforcement community might appear two-faced. That would only be partially correct. The law enforcement community is actually a Medusa.
One day they rescued a couple of people in distress, the next day they solved a cold case murder. The following week they deftly stop a bicyclist going the wrong way and wind up killing the suspect.
The various police and sheriff departments are able to deflect any wrong doing on their part by serving the ping pong ball to another affiliated agency that will after due deliberation will invariably issue a rubber stamped clean bill of health to their fellow officers, repeat.
Well done thou good and faithful servants, not.
Those seeking justice, such as minorities gunned down by police, can expect to be lost in the foggy forests of legal double, triple, quadruple talk
To members of minority groups, law enforcement officials might appear to be two-faced. That would only be partially correct. The law enforcement community is actually a Medusa. A different snake head for any occasion, cover-up, or inside job armored car drop off center heist.
Whats happening on Arnold drive 😭 4 cops drove by speeding and an ambulance
One Hand Washes The Other
An "outside law enforcement agency", (what a joke upon the taxpayers) knowing that the tables could easily be turned and the very same agency could decide their own fate in some future investigation, is charged with completing the case. Therefore both parties always vote Putin.
A "thorough criminal investigation following any deputy-involved shooting" by their fellow law enforcement members is the proverbial rubber stamp.
Above All, The Appearance Of Integrity
Not actual integrity mind you, but only the appearance thereof. The appearance of having true integrity unfortunately is the best that the police and fire departments can achieve.
To ensure the appearance of integrity of the investigation, the body-worn cameras (BWC) videos must be thoroughly reviewed by our agency and the so-called "outside agency."
Can you pronounce rubber stamp?
Yeah, like sending it over to a neighboring law enforcement agency for an independent review. (Wink, wink) Being one branch of the same tree, are they really going to be inclined to punish or in any way return back a negative assessment of any kind when it by necessity is bound to reflect back upon their own integrity, probably not?
Therefore it is, and for even the other reasons herein noted, that one hand washes the other. Seeking Justice, for the silent minority of people of color, then they should hope it doesn't rest upon the "independent" review of the above?
All interviews with involved deputies must be completed to ensure the deputies are not unintentionally influenced by viewing the videos.
Or by the shiny new vehicles delivered at sweetheart prices to all concerned that have no impact whatsoever upon the impartiality of the investigations.
As stated above, the main objective is to ensure "the appearance of integrity!"
Talk about the proverbial Freudian slip, here the law enforcement community has subconsciously revealed their guilty consciences and their routine mentality of accenting appearance over truth and substance.
The motto of the law enforcement community is no longer "To protect and serve.", the new motto is, "To maintain the appearance of integrity!"
For the most part, the police do an admirable job in keeping the peace. So efficient and effective are they that they have extra time on their hands spent moonlighting.
Selling their services to organized crime they work as part time eyes and ears, enforcers of mob edicts, more.
Organized crime gets a pass because they pay well for their get out of jail free cards.
The mafia provide the police and fire departments with both cash and the latest equipment complete with all of the bells and whistles.
Organized Crime spoils the police and fire departments with spoils so when they ask them to dance, they dance.
Spurred on by:
- Cash, lots of it, stolen from armored car depots and embezzled from taxpayers as well as private citizens.
- Free automobiles of their choosing for work and play.
- Prestige- They love to be seen of men in their shiny fineries. Their fancy uniforms complete with medals for this and that act of valor.
- Organized crime has deep pockets and liberally rewards city councilors, police and fire Chiefs with countless riches derived from the above.
Organized Crime spoils the police and fire departments with spoils so when they ask them to dance, they dance.
Ah yes, the fire department 😂. Who really inspects and assures the quality of their work? A few crooked city council members, the corrupt fire chiefs?
"Your vehicles look a beautiful shiny red, the floors are clean, great work boys!"
So far in 2024 well over 820,000 acres have been destroyed by fires and over 1,000 structures have been destroyed.
If you owned one of the over a thousand structures that were destroyed would you be impressed with the record of the fire department?
Why over in Hawaii the fire department nary raised so much as a squirt gun 🔫 nor bothered to tax their pinkies to even press the fire alarm button as they fiddled while a whole city burned!
Was it really a fire over there or was it merely a convenient method to remove the riff Raff for more higher paying, whiter Gentry?
Need more proof, consider the considered opinion of big business, never ones to be shy about poor performances?
The insurance industry is so impressed with the performance of California's fire departments that they all are running for the fire exits

Little dog gunned down by cop tears apart small town
by Haley Brown
6/1/2024 · 7:13 PM PDT
The mayor of a small Missouri town has resigned and residents are calling to shut down the police force after a cop shot a deaf, blind dog and left people outraged.
The owner of the 13-pound Shih Tzu mix is suing the city of Sturgeon for $1 million after horrifying body cam footage captured the moment officer Myron Woodson shot dead Teddy, 5, on May 19, according to a report from the Washington Post.
Kevin Abrahamson, the former mayor, resigned amid the controversy without a publicly stated reason, according to the report.

Teddy, pictured here, was shot dead by a Missouri police officer who reportedly thought the dog was rabid. Facebook/City of Sturgeon
The video from the body cam footage obtained by the Daily Mail opens with innocent white, fluffy Teddy roaming around in a grassy field.
Dog's owner interviewing on camera for a news outlet.
Teddy’s owner requested body cam footage of the incident and heard Woodson senselessly shooting his 5-year-old dog to death on the recording. ABC 17
Woodson is holding a metal catch pole and saying “come on baby” to encourage Teddy to put his head through the lasso end of the catch pole.
Later in the video, Teddy is seen playing with a rope around a tree when Woodson walks up to the confused pooch and shoots twice.

Woodson then tells a neighbor: ‘I had to dispatch it.’
The neighbor tells Woodson she was concerned he was firing his gun because she had children nearby, but Woodson’s shadow can be seen on the body cam footage using his hand to wave off the mother’s concerns.
Hunter arrives shortly after and confronts Woodson over shooting his dog, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Woodson said he didn’t know the helpless pup was blind.
“So you’re putting him out of his misery?” Hunter asked Woodson.
“What am I supposed to do?” Woodson replied, and pointed out Sturgeon doesn’t have animal control.
“I don’t enjoy shooting dogs,” the officer added.
Woodson was initially called to the area to help Teddy who was lost because he was blind.

The day after the shooting the city released a statement on Facebook that said Woodson believed Teddy was rabid and was afraid of being bitten.
The statement from the city also said that Woodson didn’t know Teddy was blind and thought the dog’s lack of ID tags played into Woodson’s determination that the dog was “sick” and “abandoned” and needed to be put down.
“‘This whole situation never should have happened,. It was handled in the wrong way entirely,” Teddy’s other owner Abbey Harnish told the Washington Post.
Dozens of Sturgeon residents hijacked a regularly scheduled city meeting Tuesday to show their support for Teddy, according to the paper.
Some people in the normally police-friendly town called for the two-person police team to be shut down after the callous killing of the tiny disabled pup.
“I think until you get this entire problem solved with the police department, you shut it down,” one man told the newspaper.
Woodson is on paid leave while the city investigates.
The lawsuit Hunter filed against Woodson and the city alleges Hunter’s Fourteenth Amendment rights were violated.
Daniel Kolde, one of the attorneys who brought the suit, said he thinks Woodson’s action constitute felony animal abuse, and he wants the prosecutor to file charges.
Teddy’s other owner Abby Harnish is grieving and wants change.
“Ultimately, nothing is going to bring my dog back, but there’s something that needs to be done and change with both the city and the cop,”‘ Harnish said.

County sheriffs wield lethal power, face little accountability: "A failure of democracy"
County sheriff's officers are three times more lethal than city police, a CBS News investigation has found.
More people were killed by U.S. law enforcement in 2023 than any other year in the past decade, outpacing population growth eightfold.
But despite a focus on urban areas, fatal police violence is increasingly happening in small town America at the hands of sheriffs, the top law enforcement officials in counties nationwide.
The revelation is part of the findings of a yearlong reporting effort that documented chronic misconduct in sheriff's offices and oversight failures that can enable abuses to go unchecked. The consequences can be fatal. But the majority of those cases go unreported, in violation of state and federal laws, making patterns of abuse harder to detect and stop.
CBS News gathered and analyzed federal law enforcement data that showed while more people died overall in encounters with city police, deaths in encounters with county sheriffs occurred at a significantly higher rate. For every 100,000 people arrested, more than 27 people died in the custody of sheriffs, while that number was fewer than 10 for police officers in 2022, the most recent year of available data.
"We should be scrutinizing sheriff's offices as much as we are police departments," said Chiraag Bains, a former civil rights prosecutor who served as deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council until 2023. "They don't get enough scrutiny."
The problem is getting worse. Sheriffs' officers are twice as deadly as they were a decade ago, according to a CBS News analysis of FBI data, and increasingly, they are taking on a larger role in policing American towns, since small police departments have been shutting down and ceding their responsibilities to county sheriffs.
A dozen sheriffs interviewed by CBS News said they hold themselves to a high standard. But some acknowledged that there is little is in place to hold them accountable if they don't. Many attribute that to their unique status as independently elected officials who are, nonetheless, empowered with the discretion to take away a person's life or liberty.
"It's serious business. Not everybody can do this job nor should be able to do the job," said David Mahoney, former sheriff of Dane County, Wisconsin, who served as president of the National Sheriffs Association from 2020 to 2021. While laws and policies vary state to state, Mahoney said that in most places, "even if convicted of a crime, [sheriffs] will continue to hold office" unless they choose to resign of their own volition or are forcibly removed.
According to CBS News' investigation, problems were more prevalent in smaller, more remote communities where deputies typically had less training, fewer resources and limited oversight. These factors allowed sheriff misconduct to continue for longer, becoming more severe and brazen before it was discovered. Even then, they rarely faced consequences.
In McCurtain County, Oklahoma, Sheriff Kevin Clardy was caught on audiotape in March of 2023 talking with other county leaders about how they might kill and discreetly bury the bodies of two local journalists who had written stories about alleged corruption inside his office, among others.
CBS News subsequently uncovered that residents had been making allegations of misconduct for years, ranging from financial improprieties to excessive force and neglect of duty. An attorney for Sheriff Clardy declined to respond to questions from CBS News but denied the allegations made in five civil rights lawsuits that are ongoing in federal court.
Interviews with law enforcement insiders combined with an original analysis of police data and court records revealed that three-quarters of reported crimes went unsolved in McCurtain County last year and some apparently suspicious deaths were never investigated or reported by the sheriff's office to independent officials — a violation of state and federal laws.
But even after a viral news scandal, a paper trail of alleged violations with audio and video evidence, and calls from the governor to resign, Sheriff Clardy remains in power today.
"Nothing has happened to them," said McCurtain Gazette reporter Chris Willingham. He and his father Bruce were the journalists whose murders the sheriff and others were heard contemplating. "They have to feel untouchable, they're above the law."
Meanwhile, some who consider themselves victims of the sheriff's office have fled town, saying they fear for their safety.
Over a 40-year period, people died in law enforcement custody at a higher rate in Oklahoma than in any other state, and in 84% of those deaths, officers or deputies didn't report their use of lethal force, according to a study published in The Lancet.
State and federal laws require that police report every time they use fatal force — but most of the time, they don't. An audit by the Government Accountability Office found that 70% of states failed to meet their reporting requirements in fiscal year 2021 and cautioned that was likely an undercount. According to reports by congressional investigators, government auditors and the Justice Department itself, the Death in Custody Reporting Act is not enforced.
"Americans are needlessly dying and are being killed while in the custody of their own government," Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff told a Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs hearing on Sept. 20, 2022. He referred to the state of local jails — the vast majority of which are overseen by sheriffs — as an "unconscionable" crisis.
Examples of sheriff misconduct are not unique to McCurtain County, or Oklahoma. CBS News documented reports of alleged misconduct or criminal activity by sheriff's offices in 46 states just since 2020.
In recent convictions: A South Carolina sheriff and deputies arrested a man under false pretenses, stole from the county then falsified records to cover it up. A Georgia sheriff abused pretrial detainees. A "Goon Squad" of white Mississippi sheriff deputies tortured Black men. A Nebraska sheriff deputy ran a multimillion dollar fraud scheme. A Northern California sheriff accepted bribes to grant gun permits to political donors. There are also ongoing cases that involve charges ranging from excessive force to unlawful restraint and sexual assault, gang activity, kidnapping, obstruction of justice, and harrassing a racial minority in order to drive them out of the county. The list goes on with countless other allegations, like in McCurtain County, that have not been charged.
An estimated 72% of the U.S. is rural, where more than 3,000 sheriffs act as the primary law enforcement. Only Alaska and Connecticut don't have any sheriffs; the latter abolished the position two decades ago due to high-profile corruption scandals.
What it takes to qualify for the job of sheriff varies from state to state: some require law enforcement experience, while others allow any U.S. citizen over age 18 to wear the star. The vast majority of sheriffs are elected, making voters the ultimate check on their authority. But candidates frequently run unopposed and it's not uncommon for a sheriff to remain in power for decades.
Forcible removal is rare and elections have historically proven to be an unreliable check on misconduct when the abuse is targeted at minority communities, which Bains described as "a failure of democracy."
"The federal government exists, its authority exists for that reason. It can come from the outside and exercise independent scrutiny and judgment," he said, adding that the FBI and Justice Department take these allegations very seriously. "It's not just a situation of bad apples; there are systems that need attention as well."
Thirty years ago, Congress empowered the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate not just individual cases but for repeated patterns or practice of civil rights violations. But with approximately 18,000 local law enforcement agencies to oversee, today the DOJ has only a few dozen people on staff with the expertise to conduct lengthy, labor-intensive oversight investigations.
Since 1994, DOJ has only filed seven cases against sheriff's offices for what are called "pattern or practice" civil rights violations. The Trump administration did not bring a single case. The Biden administration has filed just one.
The Justice Department declined to comment.

Anyone know what is up with the helicopter circling around Boyes? It's been going around for some time...
What's up with the helicopter bombardment right now on the east side?
The heroism of ALL the brave members of the police forces, firemen and firewomen, and the numerous other first responders is of course undeniable.
Such sacrifices and manifold acts of courage remain for mankind to revere and always hold close to heart.
Generations to come shall admire and hopefully attempt to emulate their noble deeds.
Such conduct indeed covers a multitude of sins.
The problem in all of this is this. There is a multiple of sins that require such a coverup. This blog addresses those unmentionables. As distasteful as it is to work on, for some of the preceding reasons, don't look to this web site for much of this type of mushy sentiment.
Here we highlight the other side of the coin.
It had nothing to do with pg&e. There was police activity for over an hour.
A helicopter circling and circling the past 20 minutes or so - in El Verano close to the Post area. What’s happening? Anyone know ow?
Been watching Flightradar24 for a couple of hours now. Stunned by how many passes! A LOT of circling.
It is not resolved.
Flight Tracker lists it as a Bell Chopper with origin unknown,
The Bell 407GXP is a utility helicopter used by the sheriff's department.
That does explain so many sirens
We see searchlights from the helicopter--we're wondering who/what they are looking for
I am so tired of all these goddamned helicopters flying over the neighborhood. It feels like there's one every day/every night. I like to sleep with the windows open and all I hear is the constant drone of helicopters.
It's been circling overhead for at least thirty minutes now. Can still hear it. My windows and doors are locked tight.
Doesn't it just bug you when things like this happen, yet there's NEVER anything on any of the local alerts.
Still circling - Locked doors and closed windows. Unsettling to say the least.
As I was waiting for my food delivery on Jefferson St. 6 cop cars pulled up.
Two police cars BLAZING down Arnold Drive
Nothing posted on Pulsepoint.
Is Stealing No Longer a Crime?
I just came from Safeway on Sonoma Mountain Parkway where a man (mid-40s) in shorts and a red baseball cap casually walked out with a basketful of groceries without paying. I yelled to the Safeway staff and they all looked at me like I was talking a foreign language. I pointed at the door, described exactly what was happening and what I saw, and nothing happened. One employee said to me, "Well, I didn't see him. I just work here." I've read about this, but when it happens right in front of your face, it's pretty shocking.
Okay, who’s on the run?! Helicopter has been circling up above my area for the last half hour or so.
I'm wondering the same thing as well. As soon as I got home it started.
And the sheriff was driving through our neighborhood too.
Yep and now heading down valley
No alerts from sheriff either.
The helicopter circled the same area for a ton of laps.
They were circling in Santa Rosa for a few hours on Monday for a few hours circling around. Drove me nuts!

Ex Officer Killings

SEATTLE (AP) — A former Washington state police officer wanted after killing two people, including his ex-wife, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a chase in Oregon, authorities said Tuesday. His 1-year-old baby, who was with him, was taken safely into custody by Oregon State Police troopers.
The troopers began chasing the ex-Yakima officer, Elias Huizar, when they saw him driving southbound on Interstate 5 near Eugene, Oregon, at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
What was the police action around Mountain Ave and Hwy 12 this morning at 3:30am?
What is all the sirens and helicopter in El Verano along Arnold Drive!?
Yeah it's still going on. And I think I just saw a searchlight.
That searchlight freaked me out.
Search continues in Maine as officer is charged with lying about taking missing person to hospital
WASHBURN, Maine (AP) — A Maine police officer accused of lying about a missing-person case was charged with several crimes, including falsifying a report in which he claimed he had taken the missing man to a hospital, police said.
Washburn Police Sgt. Chandler Cole resigned after being charged with aggravated forgery, tampering with public records or information, falsifying physical evidence, and unsworn falsification, according to court records.
Cole said he had no comment when reached by The Associated Press.
The charges, first reported by WAGM-TV, stem from the case of a missing person who appeared to be distressed when seen walking along a road March 30.
Cole reported that he had picked up Erik Foote and dropped him off at a convenience store, but he told Foote's parents he took him to the hospital.
An investigation concluded Cole altered his report to reflect a hospital drop-off. But there is no hospital record to support the claim.
Foote has yet to be located in a case that has riveted the community of 1,500 people, which has organized another search party to look for him this weekend.
The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office is now handling the investigation.
The town is in the process of deciding whether to keep a police department. Washburn's police chief retired Jan. 31, Cole resigned in February and a young officer is working elsewhere,
Town Manager Donna Turner said.
For now, the Sheriff's Office is providing coverage while Washburn is without police.
Why would a police officer lie about where they dropped a person off? The only purpose would be that the officer was covering something up. THAT is not good.
It means he's INVOLVED. Period.
It's called Common Sense. Most things like this are situations of involvements that are glaringly right in plain sight
Nothing to see here folks. Cops investigate themselves and find no wrong doing
When the police lie, that is unforgivable
Who polices the police? The police?
Gee another bent Copper. Seems to be the normal now in the US
Judicial system that stops accountability is the problem, just about every lawsuit filed is allowed to linger for months and months to be final DISMISSED by a Constitutional Federal judge, who can not find anything wrong with people being abused. Let the jury decide these cases and pay damages, PROBLEM SOLVED, but the courts will never allow it to happen
So the Cole guy that has been charged with whatever resigned in February, but the incident with the missing man wasn't until the end of March and the resigned officer altered the official reports? Some very confusing timeliness here....
But in a town of 1500 people, almost everyone knows everyone else, or is just separated by one degree. The Cole guy absolutely knows what happened here. Maybe the missing man was an issue in the town, maybe they had personal history, maybe maybe maybe. Condolences to the family that lost someone though. That stinks

unfortunately, many people of color in Santa Rosa, particularly in roseland, are apprehensive about the police. Concerns about profiling during police interactions with the community are prevalent. A Santa Rosa unified School district member, overseeing Elsie Allen High School believes Police presence on campuses is counterproductive.
Police and fire dept going code three down Sonoma mountain pkwy. What’s going on ?
What is going on at 9:30 on Saturday night with so many emergency vehicle sirens at or near Atherton Ave.? Been going on for 10 min.
Sheriffs Department email sent today.
What did you all think about the information “shared” by our Sheriff’s office today? Interesting that they made this press release only after the information was published in today’s Press Democrat. Makes me wonder what else they are keeping from the public?
I will be unsubscribing from future “press release” emails from the Sheriff’s office. I will continue to get actual news from the newspaper. I’m grateful to have an independent newspaper so that local governments and businesses can be held accountable. Many communities have lost their papers.
....nixle report about police activity on East Washington and North McDowell - I see there is a helicopter and of course hearing police sirens. Does anybody know what’s going on?
Concord Police department are prejudiced against working with women
At least five women have filed employment lawsuits against the Concord Police Department and Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office in recent months alleging discrimination, retaliation and widespread misconduct in the workplace.
Plaintiffs Amy Hendricks, Harley Valadez and Kristen Krieger are all former officers with the Concord Police Department and Beth Long still works there. According to their attorney David Ratner, these women were denied promotions on the basis of gender on dozens of occasions -- often in situations where the promotion was given to less qualified male personnel.
The women filed suit against the department in October.
"There's a glass ceiling in place that prevents women from achieving the rank they deserve," Ratner said in an interview Tuesday. "I'm hopeful that by these women stepping up, positive changes can be made within the Police Department."
The allegations against the Concord Police Department describe a working environment in which women were penalized over pregnancies and maternal leave, as well as efforts to seek mental health care related to job stress.
Concord police and the city attorney did not respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.
When Hendricks started seeing a therapist in 2014, after more than 10 years as a sworn officer, the department allegedly discouraged her from doing so.
"Concord PD instructed her to not talk about her struggles as it was a sign of 'weakness,'" Ratner alleges in the lawsuit. "On top of that, the department therapist lacked ethical boundaries, as she would discuss employee's problems with other employees."
Then in 2016, Hendricks was involuntarily reassigned to dispatch under Capt. William Roche, who served with the department until 2021.
"Ms. Hendricks knew of circumstances involving Captain Roche retaliating against the female Dispatchers, which intentionally caused a staffing shortage," the lawsuit states. "He told Ms. Hendricks that the Dispatchers were 'b----es' and he was going to 'make it miserable for them.' Captain Roche said he was going to 'force them out' and get the 'good ones' jobs elsewhere."
The lawsuit documents other forms of workplace misconduct, including an incident in which a sergeant allegedly referred to Hendricks as a "sea donkey" -- a derogatory term for unattractive women, according to Urban Dictionary -- in front of other officers during a briefing.
In 2021, Hendricks alleges she was forced into "industrial disability retirement" with two weeks' notice, despite having never applied for retirement. She was also prevented from keeping her service weapon, which the lawsuit claims is standard practice for retiring male officers.
"Concord PD wanted her doctors to answer if she was a danger to herself or to others. They also wanted the doctors to answer if she should be able to retain her duty weapon. Every medical report that addresses Ms. Hendricks' ability to carry a firearm or any danger concerns consistently showed there was no evidence to suggest any issues," Ratner writes in the complaint.
Beth Long, who has worked for the Concord Police Department since 2002, alleges she repeatedly received lower scores than her male counterparts on promotional exams that were administered by all-male superior officers.
"The exam and grading were very subjective. There was no clear grading structure or criteria nor explanation for the low grade," the lawsuit alleges.
In April 2021, Valadez was placed on modified duty after failing her pistol qualification, prevented from immediately attempting to requalify and placed on a "performance improvement plan."
"This was done in an effort to embarrass Ms. Valadez as other male officers were not forced to wait so long for requalification," writes her attorney.
A male officer allegedly failed his pistol qualification on the same occasion as Valadez -- but was given an opportunity to requalify the following day -- and another was allegedly given "unlimited opportunities in the same day to test until he qualified" on a previous date.
Krieger, who worked with Concord police until 2020, alleges that her office was given to a male officer after she suffered an on-duty knee injury. The department also denied payment for Krieger's knee surgery, claiming it was too expensive.
"At the same time, Concord PD covered higher costs for the same surgery for her male colleagues," the lawsuit says.
In addition to various forms of workplace discrimination and retaliation, the lengthy civil complaint also details a number of other questionable incidents involving law enforcement, including an incident in 2020 in which an all-male team of five officers received roughly 80 hours of overtime pay to produce a Christmas video for social media. That video is still available at https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=4062562430429482..
The plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial but the case is unlikely to go that far. According to their attorney, Contra Costa County has "mandatory ADR" or Alternative Dispute Resolution, meaning it will likely end up in mediation.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is also facing allegations of discrimination and retaliation against a female employee, according to a different lawsuit that was also filed in October.
Caroline Ramos, a fingerprint technician who has worked for the Sheriff's Office since 2011, alleges that her boss -- Cyrena Viellieux -- routinely made racist statements at work and disparaged overweight colleagues. Ramos also accused Viellieux of unlawfully accessing confidential law enforcement databases to conduct unauthorized research for friends and family members. When she complained, however, Ramos says Viellieux retaliated by accusing her of payroll fraud.
Ramos' attorney Michael McNicholas did not respond to an email requesting an interview. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office and the county counsel also did not respond to requests for comment.

Welcome to Copsonnuts2!
It shall reveal the truth concealed in the open. Feathers shall be ruffled Gwen! there will be gnashing of teeth no doubt gwen!
I, Sherlock Pwahroe, the great author of this here blog, would like to take the opportunity to assure the readers that the bad reputation of the police is mere boulderdash and that the majority of those gallant protectors of the public are forthright and of unimpeachable character.
That's what the author would like to assure you of. Unfortunately nothing could be further from the truth. Poor ole' police. They feel bad because they are looked at with suspicious eyes and receive somewhat less than total respect in some quarters. Bad reputation, yes and more.
The thoughts and information expressed in this web site are the exclusive opinions of mine, Sherlock Pwahroe, and of none others.
If any feathers become ruffled relief is a mouse click or smart phone tap away to some other of the myriad options available today.
Once upon a time in China an unfortunate business person was being constantly harassed by a wicked public official so he began to keep a log of the daily incidents. It worked well for him and so as all Americans should do, copy China. They got rich copying the west so maybe the other way around could work too!
This blog ain't about no China though. Only in respect to the above and the occasional anedote.
The best defense is a good offense, hike!
Poor ole' police. They feel bad because due to the e'er widening encroachment of awesome but scary technology, such as everyone possessing smart phones that can record their wicked deeds, they no longer can use blacks for target practice with impunity.
The interests of some rich and powerful individuals who also are devout devil worshippers, will always find a way around such inconvenient truths. Killing blacks for sport is ingrained in the DNA of the police department.
Check out the cushy deal the police man who has been naughty and killed a black person receives as "punishment". What happens, "oh you bad servant! Give me your wrist," slap slap.
You get unlimited paid vacation, oops, pardon the slip, "PAID administrative leave" wink, wink. In private they are initiated to the private policeman's world of unlimited graft skimmed from various taxpayer dollars.
But first you have to kill a black person. Then you are part of the private policeman's club, cult, whatever you want to call it. It's a devil thing. For to the Victor belong the spoils. Why don't we hear much about organized crime, because the criminals long ago won that battle and now control the very agencies tasked with bringing themselves to justice.
Alas.
A shout out to the blacks from this jaded white guy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Why are the police my enemy, just lucky I guess? I won't join them in their treachery so they are not pleased with me. Treachery yea. For it 'Twas an inside job that killed jfk.The police stood by and twiddled their thumbs while the deed took place the designated sap took the fall and the coup installed lbj. He invited the assassins to his white house inauguration and feted them. Presenting them with the voluminous program from the occasion and cementing organized crime into the very foundations of government. Oh is that all?
A new plan for your consideration
It's always easier to solve someone else's problems than one's own. While it is true that the police are flush with money, some from obvious sources while other funds perhaps even the lion's share, are provided by criminal interests to buy their obedience. Saying "defund the police, defund the police!" is for the most part a nonstarter.
For the police, like the garbage man are indispensable pillars of society, however corrupt they may be. Like the garbage man, without the police the human trash of the world piles sky high.
A better stratagem is this: "Defund the Policeman's UNION, DEFUND THE POLICEMAN'S UNION!"
People won't care quite as much about that!
The tail that wags the dog
After all, if they are going to use such gatherings to organize attacks on the taxpayers themselves, what right do they have to stage the basic takeover of the government as often plays out in this or that initiative struck down? The police shouldn't be allowed to strike or form any union as their services, like the military, are too indispensable. For their many misdeeds they need to lose the privilege of unionization.
If Starbucks and Amazon can live without a union so too can the police.
New and improved stories of real life corruption by the many faces of the police. Also deserving mention are some of their brothers and sisters in other areas of public service are ambulance and fire department employees and others who have been involved in untoward actions towards innocent private citizens.
An example is the question how common are ambulance attendants like Jason and the ug GAh nuts?
